Chore Economy

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Why should I use Chore Economy?

It's the fairest and most fun way to divide up chores and have your kids earn an allowance. Your kids learn valuable skills too: finance, math and negotiation to name a few!

My kids should have to do a minimum before they get paid.

Under Settings you can set a percentage of the total chores each kid needs to do before they get an allowance. If they do less, they have to pay to get out chores.

How do you recommend assigning chores?

Gather your family around on Sunday evening, and go over the list of chores. You can either go chore by chore and asks who wants to do it, or let each kid take turns choosing chores. The chores that are left are for the parents!

No one wants to do a certain chore.

Increase the hours until the chore is at a high enough price that your kids will want to do it!

Everyone fights over doing a certain chore.

Let your kids bid the price of the chore lower (decrease the hours) until only one of them wants to do it.

Can I set a higher hourly rate for difficult chores?

Just increase the number of hours and the price will go up.

Johnny has sports and can't do the dishes Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Split the chore out into two lines: "Do dishes Monday Wednesday and Friday" and "Do dishes Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday". Let different kids handle each one.

My kids always pay to get out of all their chores. The chores never get done. Help!

You should set the hourly rate higher (under Settings). If your kids are paying enough money you could even hire a part-time maid service!
